RJAFTA Chair person receives OAM

The Trustees of the Robert Juniper Award for the Arts are absolutely thrilled to congratulate our Chair, Michael Ryan, on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2026 Australia Day Honours.

The award recognises Michael’s service to the community through a range of roles over many years. His contributions have extended across numerous organisations, from community groups (Perth Symphonic Chorus, St Cuthberts Anglican Church), Community Youth support, sporting clubs (Hale Hockey Club, Darlington Junior Hockey Club, Hockey WA), to the Darlington Volunteer Bushfire Brigade where he was a Former Lieutenant and voluntary firefighter. He has also donated blood more than 100 times and provided pro bono legal assistance to his various organisations and extended community.

Michael has been involved with us, the Robert Juniper Award for the Arts, since its beginnings in 1987 and has served as Chair since 1998. His dedication and commitment have helped the Award continue its important work supporting young creatives and nurturing the next generation of artists.

It is wonderful to see Michael’s many years of community service recognised with this national honour.

Congratulations, Michael, from all of us at the Robert Juniper Award for the Arts. A well-deserved recognition of your contribution to the community!
